Good morning!
Some interesting AI news and comment over the weekend (even if one ignores all the critiques of Peter Thiel’s NYT opinion piece!).
A few Asia AI stories below including some startup news from India and Hong Kong. A number of stories about AI in India, including an update on military AI development, all about Walmart’s recent Indian startup acquisitions and a download link for IDC and Microsoft’s new AI survey of Indian business leaders and employees.
You’ll also find a couple of stories about AI being used to save India’s tigers and West Sumatra’s rain forest. In case you missed it, I shared a story last week about China’s efforts to track Amur tigers using AI (newsletter 29 July).
The AI Summit Hong Kong seems to be the big event of the week, which begins Wednesday at the Hong Kong Convention Centre in Wan Chai (although there is a VIP reception tomorrow evening). Organised by Informa’s AI Business unit, about 1,500 attendees and more than 100 speakers are expected to attend. Twitter hashtag is #AISummitHongKong. It’s looking good!
Finally, I’ve linked to the article from the Tianjic chip R&D team below (a.k.a. the science behind the AI bicycle video). You’ll need splash out $8.99 though, if you’re not a Nature subscriber.
Enjoy the AI Summit, if you’re going! Either way, have a good week!
