Good morning,
Here’s Thursday’s edition of Asia AI News, with a focus on the coronavirus impact, the China-US trade war and Huawei 5G policies.
The impact of the coronavirus is spreading wider, with Curtis Chin, an Asia fellow at the Milken Institute, claiming that the crisis is speeding up a decoupling of China and the US.
Meanwhile, Amazon, Ericsson, Facebook, Sony, Intel, Cisco, LG and other tech companies are reported to be withdrawing from this year’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona (24-27 Feb) because of the coronavirus fears.
However, according to comments from China’s senior healthcare advisor on Tuesday, the coronavirus crisis could be over in April. Of course, no one really knows, but the next few weeks will be critical, since they will indicate whether the measures taken so far have managed to slow the spread of the virus or not.
Also see below for news on Skymind’s expansion into South East Asia, Abu Dhabi Group 42’s offer of AI and cloud resources for coronavirus researchers and the decisions made this week on Germany’s 5G policy towards Huawei.
Have a good day!
