Asia AI News
Good morning,
Apologies for the irratic Asia AI News schedule during the past few days. My computer issues last week took their toll in more ways than one!
Here’s a round up of the weekend’s Asia AI news. There’s some funding news, policy news and a great story about training company Clone Futura planning AI bootcamps for 1,300 students in Mumbai.
Top of mind for many, is how the China-US trade deal negotiations are going and there is still a wide range of opinion and comment on what the status is: although less actual information.
It’s obvious that the negotiations are taking longer than both sides thought, since the original plan was for the two presidents to sign the Phase One deal at the APEC summit in Chile, which was originally supposed to take place over the weekend. China and US negotiators had a call on Saturday, but neither side has given much away as to what, if anything, was agreed.
Meanwhile, there is speculation that New York Times coverage of leaked Chinese government reports on the handling of the Xinjiang region may scupper the whole deal.
Also, some sad news for the tech industry and Asian startups as RISE, due to take place in Hong Kong in March 2020, is postponed for a year by the organisers, in response to continued street protests. Scroll to the end of the newsletter for that story.
Have a great week!
