Here’s a very mixed bag of news in today’s email. Some funding news, some policy news and the launch of Singapore Management Universities Smart Cities business plan competition.
Aside from the $70 billion dollar progress report on SoftBank Group’s Vision 2 Fund, the biggest AI funding news of yesterday was Chinese intelligent manufacturing services company MingDu Tech raising $14 million. Makes sense- pharma + AI + robotics - gotta be something in there!
Meanwhile, in a demonstration of just how hungry media are for news of the China v. U.S. AI race, the director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy told a House Appropriations Committee subpanel that the US was still ahead of the AI game: and now that’s news!
Strangely, it seems that the more anti-China Washington gets, the more enthusiastic US tech firms are to tie up big deals with Chinese counterparts. This week Salesforce, com announced a partnership with Alibaba to bring its services to the Greater China region.
TGIF!
